Annotation
This autobiographical story of the author's childhood growing up surrounded by the heavy hitters of the 1960's movement for equal rights.

Personal Reaction:
The brightness of the book gives the realistic perspective of historical situations in an up beat way that focuses on what the movement was fighting for and what the positive results would be. Refreshingly bright and upbeat for its subject matter, this book is a must for school libraries and an excellent nonfiction read aloud for conversation about the Civil Rights Movement and positive social justice and change. Often this is a scary subject for young African Americans but this book is a celebratory perspective of a young girl who was living through it.
